The lights on the pedestrian crossing linking the St Michael’s Gyratory and the University library have been upgraded. The crossing over St Michael’s Road and the one over Cambridge Road now operate independently;  previously they both went red together, leading to longer than necessary delays.

New sensors have also been installed in the lights by Subway Sandwiches, so that the red phase ends as soon as the person on the crossing is safely back on the pavement. Previously the lights were on a timer, which out of necessity had to assume a slow crosser.

Taken together these two changes have improved traffic flow around the University.
